Garvey “Reads” Sunday, Nov 22 2009

I have never put much stock in those miracle gimmicks geared at making your kids smarter. I believe that children learn through every day experiences and picking up the things they see and hear.  I read to my son just about every day. If I don’t read to him, his father does or his babysitter does. He picks things up very quickly. And I don’t have to shell out tons of dollars.

Garvey: At The Close of Year 3 Wednesday, Nov 11 2009

Since Garvey has been around, I’ve been making annual montages of him from over periods of time. This year is no different, it’s just late because I was without a home PC for a few months.  Better late than never… Here’s myPooh Bear

Garvey the MC (2 videos) Sunday, Nov 8 2009

Garvey loves the Fresh Beat Band and thinks he is shout. In this video he is announcing himself in an imaginary show. In part 2, he encourages crowd participation.

Once again, it took me forever to grab the camera lol

Garvey Gets Reading Help From Big Sis Sunday, Nov 8 2009

This is a crude video of Janniyah reading to Garvey. It took me too long to get the video going, so I only caught the second part. But its cute!

Garvey the 3 Year Old Monday, Oct 26 2009

I haven’t updated this in a while because my PC was on the fritz. But now it is fixed and we’re back up rolling.

Things have been going well for G.

We had his 3rd birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese, per his request. In true Garvey fashion, however, he was terrified of Chuck and it took him about an hour to warm up to being there. He tried everything to leave. But eventually, he had fun. Here are some pictures:

The cake came from Costco. We were going to do a big, expensive cake, but for what? LOL He loves Thomas the Tank Engine this year, so we focused on decorating with Thomas decor. I just took some stickers and put them on tooth pick lol

Garvey tried his hand at Skee Ball. I think he did ok. He even got the ball to go up the ramp a bit and into the bottom area to score some points. This was the one game he really seemed to love.

Then he discovered the cars. If there is one thing he loves, it is cars. Of course, daddy had to man the pedals, but he was steering his butt off and doing a great job!

Finally, his cake time. G actually posed for this picture. I asked him to put his fork in the cake and hold it for a picture and he did. impressive lol

All in all it was a great time!

G Meets Gym Tuesday, Sep 15 2009

Excited to begin his first class

Excited to begin his first class

Yesterday was Garveys first day of gymnastics class. I have to admit, I was a blubbering fool. I tried to hold it in though.

Having a swinging good time

Having a swinging good time

A few weeks ago, we received word about an open house at a new gym opening in Harlem. We’ve been wanting to get G involved in something physically stimulating for some time, but knew he was too young. Well, as he is about to turn 3, I pushed for us to get him involved somewhere. This place, The Little Gym, seemed perfect!! They offer classes for kids of all ages. He is in the Funny Bugs group, for ages 3-4. They work on a variety of skills from listening, following directions, tumbling, building muscle strength, etc.

The coaches are energetic and experienced. It seemed like the other kids in the class had been there before. G was the youngest and the newest, but guess what? He didnt act out like some of the other kids. He came out one time because he had to use the bathroom and another time just to get some reassurance, but he didnt cry, scream, fight or anything. There werekids older than him acting the fool, but not my boy!! He listened, followed along, and had a GREAT time. At the end, he said “I want to go back in!” so we knew he was happy. I’m so happy that he enjoys this and I look forward to future semesters and other classes. He might end up being too tall for gymnastics, but the skills he is learning will help him with other things.

Did i mention they offer dance classes? QQ

Kiss My Butt, Mommy Saturday, Aug 15 2009

It’s Saturday morning, and we’re sitting here relaxing. Daddy and I are on the couch and Garvey is running around naked. He occasionally comes over for hugs, so one time, I hug him and ask

Me: “Garvey, can I have a kiss?”

G: “My Butt”

Me: “What?”

G: “My butt Mommy. It hurts.” (I usually kiss the hurt parts to make them better)

Me: “You want Mommy to kiss your butt?”

G: “Yes”

I look at Daddy who has covered his face to hide the laughter. Why? Because Garvey turned around and poked his butt out towards me, raising it for me to kiss it.

G: “Kiss my butt Mommy”

Me: “I’m not kissing your butt Garvey”

He continues to poke it out. Daddy is really laughing behind his hand so Garvey asks “Where’s Daddy?”

Me: “Daddy’s hiding”

G: “Ohhhh he’s hiding”

Me: “Yes, ’cause Mommy is about to hurt him in about 25 seconds” (said while stifling my own laughter)

I’d post a pic, but you know, we’re avoiding all child porn charges lol

Major Injury (kinda) Friday, Aug 14 2009

Haven’t updated in a while, but life has been busy for us.

Garvey is full swing into potty training and has had 2 consecutive days of no accidents. He is getting better at telling people when he has to go too!

Well today, as per his usual nighttime routine, he was jumping around in his bed. I scolded him several times but he would not stop. Next thing I know, I hear a bang and immediate crying. Not the whiney type but the “I’m in pain” type. I rushed over and saw him covering his mouth. I took his hand away and all I saw was blood.

I wanted to freak so bad but he was looking at me for reassurance so I kept my composure. I picked him up and carried him to the bathroom. Sure enough, he’d banged his mouth so bad, one of his two front teeth shifted a bit. It’s slight but noticeable if you’re used to how his teeth look. The blood kept gushing and he kept crying. I wanted to take him to the ER, but something told me to calm down, wait, absorb the blood and see what happens. I wiggled the tooth or tried to, but it didnt move. He said it hurt. He was scared by the blood. Shoot, so was I! It was dripping down his chest.

I cleaned him up and held him close, reassuring him it would be ok. Through his tears he said “I’m alright Mommy” and when I asked if he wanted some juice he said yes. After drinking his juice, he hugged me close and said he wanted to stay with mommy. Normally, I’d put him back in bed but this time, I kept him close. He fell asleep in my arms, blood and pain gone.

My poor little guy…

…but that’ll learn him!!!

Bath Time Wednesday, Jul 22 2009

So Garvey, Daddy, and I are watching TV last night. I cooked dinner and there was broccoli involved. Let’s just say the aroma wasn’t pleasant.  We are teaching Garvey to excuse himself when he passes gas, as it is the polite thing to do.  So he, of course, passes gas and I remind him to say excuse me, which he does.  Many times when we cook this kind of food, it usually leads to an explosive bowel movement (AKA “Stinky”) and Garvey is immediately escorted to the bathtub to be washed.

So he is standing in front of me and well, I succumbed to the same fateful behavior. I said “Oh, wow, excuuuuse me!”

Garvey: “Ohhh Mommy, you farted!!” wrinkling his nose.

Me: *covering my nose* “Yes, baby, Mommy is stinky.”

Garvery: “Mommy stinky?” Pauses for a second. “You need a baaaath. You gotta wash your butt butt now” and he walks away from the funk.

Daddy, of course, is laughing at the entire thing.
